Charles was born January 21, 1924, to Gorman & Gladys (Langford) Lawhead in Evansville, IN. He was a graduate of Bosse High School and immediately joined the U.S. Navy after graduation. He served during World War II. He had a passion for the Navy and was one of the founders of the USS Essex Aircraft Carrier CV9 annual reunion. He recently went on the 2014 Honor Flight to Washington D.C.He was a Brick Mason and a member of the Bricklayers Local #4. He was a true artist and enjoyed personalizing family birthday cards. He loved watching the Indianapolis Colts and IU Basketball. Charles was a member of Lessing Masonic Lodge #464, Scottish Rite Valley of Evansville, Hadi Shrine, Fraternal Order of Eagles, VFW #2953 - Charles Denby Post, American Legion Kapperman Post #44 in Newburgh, IN. He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Cochran, and her husband, Ronald, of Evansville, IN; his son, Roger Lawhead, and wife, Teresa, of Boonville, IN; seven grandchildren, Brian Cochran, Jill Berry, Matt and wife, Bertha Cochran, Katie Cochran, Melissa Roth and husband, Jeremy, Jennie Lamb and husband, Lee, Drew and wife, Julie Lawhead; his sisters, June Soder of Osteen, FL, Linda Mattox of Staunton, VA, Martha Sue Lease of Evansville IN, nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 24 years, Eloise (Harmon), his parents, and sister, Sharon Weinbach.Graveside Services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, October 2, 2015, at Park Lawn Cemetery with Reverend Dr. Dennis Davenport officiating where American Legion Post #44 will render final honors.Friends may call for a Memorial Gathering from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m., Friday, October 2, 2015, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel-A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville, IN, 47715.
